Research activities

General information

The growing interest in fire safety and crisis management in contemporary society demands more thorough research and consultation. This has unmistakably led to substantial growth in research activities on the part of the Netherlands Institute for Safety (NIFV). Our clients operate in both the public and private sectors.

Strategy

Our strategy is the following:
The objective development and dissemination of knowledge in the field of fire safety, risk, safety, preparation and incident research within the field of fire safety and crisis management.

Who we are

Head of our Research Department is Jos Post, PhD MSc. The department currently consists of thirteen researchers, each of whom specializes in a specific field. Our secretary provides administrative and secretarial support.

What we do

The evaluations of the fireworks disaster in the city of Enschede and the café fire in Volendam are examples of the type of large-scale investigations we conduct. However, we also provide organizational recommendations, safety studies and tailor-made disaster plans.

We have accumulated knowledge and expertise in the following areas:
